Teachers in the Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District will receive an 11% pay raise, retroactive to July 1, under a contract settlement recently approved by the board. Board member Robert Cancio in a Wednesday, Nov. 23 telephone interview, said the district can afford the nearly $13.1 million cost as a result of extra money coming from the state. Even with the pay raise, the district's $173.6 million budget will have a proposed $48.1 million ending balance as of June 30, 2023, according to district budget figures.
